Cogent eMASTER+ ISA and EISA Fast Ethernet Adapters Driver Installation README files ---------------------------------------- README driver installation instructions for specific operating systems can be found in: Operating System Diskette Location NetWare Server \README\NWSERVER.TXT DOS ODI Workstation \README\DOSODI.TXT Windows for Workgroups \README\WFW.TXT Windows NT (all versions) \README\WINNT.TXT Windows 95 \README\WIN95.TXT Products in the eMASTER+ ISA and EISA Fast Ethernet product line include: Model: Description: EM100 TX ISA Single port 100 Mbps UTP EM110 TX ISA 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps UTP EM110 TX ISA Combo 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps UTP/BNC EM100 TX EISA Single port 100 Mbps UTP EM110 TX EISA 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps UTP EM110 TX EISA Combo 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps TP/BNC EM100 T4 ISA Single port 100 Mbps UTP EM110 T4 ISA 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps UTP EM110 T4 ISA Combo 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps UTP/BNC EM100 T4 EISA Single port 100 Mbps UTP EM110 T4 EISA 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps UTP EM110 T4 EISA Combo 10/100 Single port 10 Mbps/100 Mbps UTP/BNC Documentation Update - ISA Jumper ---------------------------------------- Version 02 of the eMASTER+ Fast Ethernet manual states on Page 3 that the pins at location JP1 on the adapter (ISA only) should be jumpered for use in non-Plug and Play machines. This jumper can be disregarded in both Plug and Play and non-Plug and Play environments. Documentation Update - Full Duplex Support ---------------------------------------- Version 02 of the eMASTER+ Fast Ethernet manual states in Appendix A that the ISA and EISA adapters support Full Duplex Ethernet. This statement is incorrect. The PCI adapters support Full Duplex Ethernet, the ISA and EISA adapters do not. Documentation Update - EMDIAG ---------------------------------------- Version 02 of the eMASTER+ Fast Ethernet manual states on Page 4 to select the "Adapter Configuration" option of EMDIAG to change the I/O Port and IRQ. For the ISA adapters, these settings can be found instead on the first screen presented by EMDIAG. For the EISA adapters, configuration information is displayed on the first screen, but cannot be edited. EISA adapter configurations are edited through your system's EISA Configuration Utility. For a full desciption of EMDIAG and its options, see \README\EMDIAG.TXT on your eMASTER+ diskette. The "Configuration Status" and "Diagnostics" options for the ISA EMDIAG described on pages 10 and 29 are not yet available. Fast Ethernet Cabling ---------------------------------------- 100BASE-T4 ========== Cogent's 100Base-T4 Fast Ethernet adapters are all designed to run over Category 3, 4, or 5 UTP cabling and RJ-45 connectors. For running at 10 Mbps, the EM110 T4 and EM110 T4 Combo ISA and EISA adapters can also use Category 3 UTP cabling. In addition, the EM110 T4 ISA and EISA Combos support 10 Mbps on BNC, or THINNET, cabling. 100BASE-TX ========== Cogent's 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet adapters are all designed to run over Category 5 UTP or Type 1 STP cabling and RJ-45 connectors. For running at 10 Mbps, the EM110 TX and EM110 TX Combo ISA and EISA adapters can also use Category 3 UTP cabling. In addition, the EM110 TX ISA and EISA Combos support 10 Mbps on BNC, or THINNET, cabling. "Crossover" Cables ---------------------------------------- Use the following pinouts to make a crossover cable. Pinouts for both TX and T4 are shown (use the TX pinout also for 10BASE-T).
