Windows 95 is already installed Copy the four INF files to the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. When asked, say Yes to replacing the existing files. Copy the three VXD files to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. When asked say Yes to replacing the existing files. Go to Control Panel and open "System". Click on Device Manager. Click on "View devices by connection". Click on the plus sign next to "Plug and Play BIOS". Click on PCI Bus and then click on "Remove". You will be warned that you are about to remove the device from your system. Continue by clicking on OK and then click on OK to shutdown and restart your computer. The computer will restart and will go through a procedure of re-detecting various devices in your system. Keep selecting all the default options and drivers will be loaded for the devices that are detected. Several times you may be told that the computer has found a newer version of the iver for a device and you are asked if you wish to keep your existing file. Always say yes to this question (the default option). If you have not installed the USB supplement you should still allow Windows 95 to search for a driver for USB, but when it reports no driver found simply continue. Eventually the system will be ready to use. Case 2. Windows 95 is not installed or you wish to re-install from scratch If the hard drive is completely formatted then you will need to load the CD-ROM driver from the universal boot disk onto the hard drive and by following the directions on the boot disk. Then boot to the new hard drive and make a directory called "CABS". Copy the contents of the "WIN95" directory on the Windows 95 CD-ROM to the "CABS" directory. Copy all of new the INF and VXD files into the CABS directory on the hard drive. Then type "SETUP" while in the CABS directory. Windows 95 will then be installed with all the correct updated files. If you wish to re-install Windows 95 from scratch but without formatting your hard drive then first copy the "WIN95" directory from CD-ROM to the C:\CABS directory. Then copy the updated INF and VXD files to the same directory. Then reboot the notebook and when the message "Starting WIndows 95 appears press the F8 key and choose "Safe Mode command prompy only". Remove the WINDOWS directory by using the command "DELTREE C:\WINDOWS". Then change to the C:\CABS directory and type "SETUP" to start the installation of Windows 95.
