Overview

This is the basic Gateway OEM  Windows Me and Windows 2000 driver for the Integrated SigmaTel Audio CODEC.


Identification

Use the following steps to determine whether this driver applies to you. 

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

Note: In Windows Me, if you do not see this icon, click view all Control Panel options, and then double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

4.  On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.

5.  VIA Audio controller - SigmaTel CODEC should be listed under Sound, video and game controllers.  If you do not have a listing for VIA Audio controller - SigmaTel CODEC, this driver does not apply to you.


Installation

1.  After you have downloaded and double-clicked the 7511014.exe file, the files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\7511014 folder.

2.  Close all open programs.

3.  From the Start menu, click Run.  In the Run dialog box, type the path and location of the setup installation file for the Integrated SigmaTel Audio CODEC drivers; for example, C:\Cabs\7511014\Setup.exe.  Click OK.

4.  In the SigmaTel AC97 Audio Driver Setup dialog box, click Next.

5.  Click Yes.

6.  Click Install, and then click Next.

7.  The drivers install.

8.  In the SigmaTel AC97 Audio Driver Setup dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer, and then click Finish.

9.  Upon entering Windows, new hardware is detected.

10.  In the InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

11.  Test the sound by shutting down and restarting the computer several times. 


Removal

1.  Close all open programs.

2.  From the Start menu, click Run.  In the Run dialog box, type the path and location of the setup installation file for the Integrated SigmaTel Audio CODEC drivers; for example, C:\Cabs\7511014\Setup.exe.  Click OK.

3.  In the SigmaTel AC97 Audio Driver Setup dialog box, click Next.

4.  Click Yes.

5.  Click Uninstall, and then click Next.

6.  The drivers remove.

7.  In the SigmaTel AC97 Audio Driver Setup dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer, and then click Finish.


Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing difficulties during or after driver installation, perform these troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Verify that all cables are securely connected.  

2.  Review the preceding software installation procedure.  Ensure that you did not miss any of the steps. 

3.  Verify that your operating system is Windows Me or Windows 2000, as these drivers are only functional under these operating systems.

4.  If you still have difficulties installing this file, download the file again, and then ensure that all instructions in this document are followed.


Reason for Update

This is the latest Gateway-supported basic driver for the Integrated SigmaTel Audio CODEC.
