This readme file describes the procedure to install the Windows 2000 drivers for hp StorageWorks LTO Ultrium Tape drives. SP19820 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The SoftPaq file that is downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a file name based on the SoftPaq Number above. 2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. Press the Space Bar to confirm the unpacking of files into the download directory. 3. After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the self-extracting SoftPaq file downloaded in step 1. INSTALLATION How to install on the Windows 2000 platform: Connect your Ultrium tape drive to the system. Ensure the SCSI bus is terminated correctly and that there are no target ID conflicts. These instructions apply to the Windows Backup Utility. 1. Right click the My Computer icon and select Manage. 2. Select Device Manager on the left panel to display all the devices on the right panel on the Computer Management console. Make all subsequent selections from the devices shown in the right panel. 3. If the tape or automation device has not yet been installed, connect the device and select Scan for hardware changes to detect the device. At first, the device might be displayed in the "other device" category under the ? icon. After the correct driver is installed, the device is correctly displayed in the tape drives and medium changers categories. 4. To install a tape driver, select the appropriate tape drive and do the following: a. Right click the drive and select Properties. b. Select the Driver tab. c. Click Update Driver to launch the Update Device Driver Wizard. d. When prompted, select the option to display a list of known drivers. e. Click Have Disk and navigate to the location that contains the downloaded .inf and .sys files. g. Select the .inf file and click OK. h. The wizard displays a list of the drivers available in this directory. Select the item that describes your drive, and then click OK to install the driver. Your tape drive should now be functioning with the new driver. You will not ordinarily be asked to reboot your computer. You must install the tape device driver and the changer driver (if using an automated device). The medium changer may be displayed as an "Unknown Medium Changer." To install the changer driver, select the unknown medium changer listed under Medium Changers from the device list, and repeat steps 4a through 4h above.
